About Hearts

The heart beats about 2.5 billion times over the average lifetime, pushing millions of
gallons of blood to every part of the body. This steady flow carries with it oxygen, fuel, hormones, other compounds and a host of essential cells.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in Western countries,
representing almost 30% of all deaths worldwide. Evidence shows the effectiveness of healthy dietary patterns and lifestyles for the prevention of CVD. Based on the current evidence, the traditional Mediterranean-type diet, including plant foods/emphasising plant protein sources, provides a well-tested healthy dietary pattern to reduce CVD.
